What Does Admiral Car Insurance Cover?

Admiral offers four comprehensive policy tiers, each adding more features as you move up from Essential to Platinum.

Admiral Essential

The entry-level tier includes a courtesy car, uninsured driver promise, personal injury cover up to £5,000, and a 24-hour emergency helpline. Motor legal and breakdown cover are available as paid add-ons.

Admiral (the standard tier)

The second tier, simply called “Admiral”, adds windscreen protection, personal belongings cover up to £200, European driving for up to 90 days, and conditional driving-other-cars cover.

Admiral Gold

Gold includes everything in the standard tier plus motor legal protection as standard, personal belongings cover raised to £300, and onward travel cover up to £150. Breakdown cover remains an add-on.

Admiral Platinum

Platinum is Admiral’s top tier. It bundles breakdown cover and motor legal protection as standard, giving you the widest protection without needing any add-ons.

What Are The Three Cover Levels With Admiral?

Like all UK car insurers, Admiral offers three core cover levels that determine how much protection you get in the event of an accident, theft, or fire.

Third party only

Third party only covers damage you cause to other people, vehicles, and property. It won’t pay to repair your own car, but it meets the minimum legal requirement.

Third party, fire and theft

Third party, fire and theft adds protection if your car is stolen or damaged by fire. This suits drivers whose car isn’t worth insuring for own-damage but is still too valuable to leave unprotected against theft.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive cover includes everything above plus damage to your own vehicle, even when the accident is your fault. All four of Admiral’s policy tiers are available at the comprehensive level.

What Add-Ons Does Admiral Offer?

Admiral offers several optional extras that you can add to any policy tier, though some are already included in the higher tiers.

Breakdown cover

Unlimited 24/7 roadside assistance, including recovery if your car can’t be fixed at the roadside. This is included with Platinum but costs extra on lower tiers.

Motor legal protection

Covers legal costs if you need to claim compensation after an accident that wasn’t your fault. Included from Gold upwards, and available as an add-on on Essential and Admiral.

Personal injury cover

All tiers include £5,000 of personal injury cover as standard. You can upgrade this to £50,000 as an optional extra for more protection.

Battery cover for electric vehicles

If you drive an electric car, Admiral offers battery and charging cable cover as an add-on, including wallbox protection up to £1,000 and out-of-charge recovery.

How Much Does Admiral Car Insurance Cost?

Admiral’s pricing varies by driver profile, vehicle, and cover level, but independent tests suggest Admiral is often 10% to 15% below the market average for comprehensive cover.

What affects Admiral’s pricing?

Your age, postcode, claims history, annual mileage, and the car’s insurance group all play a part. The cover level and policy tier you choose also affect the final quote.

Young drivers and those with recent claims or convictions will pay more than experienced drivers with a clean record.

Factor How It Affects Your Premium
Age Younger and older drivers pay more due to higher claim rates
Postcode Urban areas with higher theft and accident rates cost more
No-claims bonus 5+ claim-free years earns your maximum discount
Annual mileage Lower mileage means less risk and a lower quote
Insurance group Cars in groups 1-10 are cheapest to insure
Cover level Comprehensive is sometimes cheaper than TPFT
Policy tier Platinum costs more than Essential but includes more add-ons

How does Admiral compare on price?

Admiral is generally competitive for drivers in their 30s and 40s with a clean record. For higher-risk profiles, comparing across multiple insurers is the best way to find a better rate.

Renewal quotes are often higher than the original price, so checking your renewal letter against fresh quotes is always worth the five minutes it takes.

*51% of consumers could save £535.17 on their Car Insurance. The saving was calculated by comparing the cheapest price found with the average of the next four cheapest prices quoted by insurance providers on Seopa Ltd’s insurance comparison website. This is based on representative cost savings from May 2026 data. The savings you could achieve are dependent on your individual circumstances and how you selected your current insurance supplier.

Is Admiral Car Insurance Good Value?

Admiral consistently scores well in independent reviews, holding a 5-star Defaqto rating on its Standard, Gold, and Platinum tiers, and a 4.5 out of 5 score on Trustpilot from over 157,000 reviews.

Industry ratings

Admiral’s Platinum and Gold policies score highest in independent assessments, with motor legal protection and breakdown cover included rather than charged as extras.

The Essential tier scores lower because it strips out windscreen cover and European driving. If you want the best value from Admiral, Gold or Platinum typically offer more for the price increase.

Customer satisfaction

Admiral’s customer ratings sit above average for the UK car insurance market. You can check their current score and read recent reviews on the Admiral website or on Trustpilot.

Common praise focuses on competitive pricing and the MultiCar discount. Common complaints relate to premium increases at renewal, which is why comparing quotes before auto-renewing is always worth doing.

How To Save Money On Admiral Car Insurance

You can reduce your Admiral premium by bundling policies, building your no-claims discount, and comparing quotes every year at renewal.

Bundle policies with MultiCar

Admiral’s MultiCar discount applies when you insure two or more vehicles on the same policy. Each car gets its own cover level and renewal date, but the group discount can cut each premium.

Build your no-claims bonus

Five or more claim-free years earns you the maximum no-claims discount. Protecting your no-claims bonus costs a small amount extra but keeps the discount safe even after a fault claim.

Increase your voluntary excess

Agreeing to pay a higher excess in the event of a claim reduces your annual premium. This works best if you have a clean record and rarely claim.

Consider black box insurance

Admiral’s LittleBox and black box policies monitor your driving and reward safe behaviour with lower premiums. This is particularly useful for younger or newer drivers.

Pay annually instead of monthly

Monthly instalments include interest that can add 10% to 30% to your total cost. Admiral’s monthly APR is competitive, but paying annually still saves more.

Compare quotes every year

Auto-renewing without shopping around almost always costs more. A five-minute comparison at renewal can save hundreds, even if you stay with Admiral.
